The former Red Devils skipper says Cristiano Ronaldo is a "genius" and insists it was obvious for the club to step down "one of the greatest players of all time.

Roy Keane sang the praises of Cristiano Ronaldo and insists Manchester United "had to sign him when the opportunity presented itself.

Ronaldo has been busy stealing the headlines for his sensational return to Old Trafford. He might be on the wrong side of the 30s, but his performance has lived up to their bills. In just 10 games in all competitions, he scored eight contributions with seven goals and one assist.

The Portuguese ace was also the catalyst for United's 30th victory over Tottenham on Sunday. First, he broke the deadlock in north London by scoring a formidable volley.

He then served Edinson Cavani for the club's second goal before giving way to Marcus Rashford, who scored a late third goal. The result ended United's winless streak in the Premier League and led Keane to say goodbye to his former Red Devils teammate. What did Keane say?

"There is no doubt about Ronaldo. Manchester United had to sign him. I think Ronaldo is a brilliant player, in the short term you are looking at one or two years, which is why he is in the squad." he told Sky Sport. “One of the greatest players ever to walk on a soccer field and you see it. Players have to get used to it.

” Obviously, they have Cavani next to him to share the load, but Ronaldo would never stop people - that's not his strength. We say, modern teams, you have to have 11 players in the race, well that's not the case. “You can have a genius or two” on your team and say, “listen, get the job done.”

Look at that [Ronaldo's first goal], it's not even a half-chance and an important goal. sees it for the second goal, Ronaldo is a genius. If you have it in your club, it can only be a plus. Ronaldo and United return to the pitch on Tuesday away against Atalanta in the Champions League.
