Breaking: Veteran Nollywood Actor Babatunde Omidina popularly called Baba Suwe Is Dead




Veteran Nollywood actress Modupe Johnson otherwise known as Fali Werepe shared bad news on her social media page. The veteran actress tearfully revealed that one of the old Yoruba actors Baba Suwe kicked the bucket. Loyal fans of the late actor have taken to social media to recall memories of him while mourning him.

 The Nollywood industry has been thrown into mourning as veteran actor Babatunde Omidina popularly called Baba Suwe has been certified dead. The report of his passing was shared by actress Fali Werepe on her Instagram page. With tears emoji, the actress just said that the veteran actor is gone. One of Baba Suwe's children confirmed the news on Instagram as he stated that the actor died on Monday, November 22, 2021. 

 A video of the actor's son crying over the death of his father was spotted online. The young man was weeping bitterly as he stated that they called on family for help but nobody answered them. He then ended the video by praying that his father's soul would rest in peace.

Here are seven key things to remember about popular Nollywood comedian, Babatunde Omidina, fondly called Baba Suwe who died on Monday.


Birth:

Baba Suwe was born on August 22, 1958.


State of Origin:

For many who would have thought the veteran actor hailed from Oyo or Osun State due to his accent, Baba Suwe was a native of Ikorodu Local Government Area of Lagos State.


He was born and grew up in Lagos Island.


Education:

Omidina had his primary and secondary education in Lagos and Osun States, in the south-western part of the country.


Career:

Baba Suwe was best known for the comic role he played and featured in scores of movies – including those produced by him – such as Iru Esin, Ebi Olokada, Baba Londoner, Obelomo, Elebolo, Larinloodu, and Baba Jaiye Jaiye, among many others.


Years Active:

Omidina began acting in 1971. He, however, came into limelight after he featured in a Yoruba movie titled ‘Omolasan’ which was produced by Obalende.


Accusation:

Omidina was accused of cocaine trafficking by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in 2011.


The allegation was later described as false and defamatory by a court in Lagos which ordered that Baba Suwe should be paid N25 million as compensation. He, however, lamented that he did not receive any payment years after the ruling.


Death:

The veteran actor died on November 22, 2021, after he was said to have battled an illness for a long period. He was 63 years old.
